we’re so excited to get started with classroom design for our beautiful new spaces! we thought our readers might like to follow along in this process with us.
yesterday, we took measurements of the spaces and got some “before” photos. these spaces are currently being used as a church nursery on sundays for just a few children at a time, so expect them to undergo a major transformation between now and september when we officially open our doors to our first students.
as you can tell, infants and young toddlers are utilizing this space now (and will continue to do so, but we will be sharing the space, so there will be a bit of moving furniture, etc that will happen on the weekends). we will have a mixed-age group of up to 10 students in this classroom between the ages of 2-4yrs. the door leads directly to the fenced in playground area which is so ideal. the only challenge i foresee is perhaps the lighting. there is not much natural lighting in here because of the wonderful trees outside that shade the playground, but certainly nothing we can’t overcome!
this one is a little larger, we may be able to serve 12 children here comfortably. this one has more windows and lots more natural light; it’s door also leads to the playground as you can probably see in the last photo. i love the tile floor that will allow for plenty of sensory play and art without worry for the carpet!
it is hard to tell from these photos but the outdoor space is really beautiful and spacious. the fenced area includes the playground but also a larger open space where i am already envisioning a big mud kitchen, some garden boxes in the sunny corner, a water table, little picnic tables…so many possibilities! and being able to connect directly to the outdoor space, children could even wander back and forth between the indoor and outdoor environment throughout the morning. having that flow can be so incredibly freeing for both teachers and students.
so, welcome! please follow along our journey to making this space the best it can be for our future students and families.
